Are You GDPR Ready?

GDPR Ready

Please note:  I am not an attorney and my goal here is not to give you legal advice but rather give you an overview of GDPR.

GDPR, also known as the General Data Protection Regulation, is intended to protect the right to privacy of those in countries across Europe.  Although this is a European law, if you do business WITH those who have citizenship in Europe (regardless of where they reside), you are bound to follow this law or risk penalties (which can be quite costly) for not doing so.

If you offer goods and services to those in Europe, collect or store personal information that could be used to identify someone, or monitor their activity, this law applies to you and you must meet the compliance requirements by May 25, 2018.

If you have a mailing list, you need to be compliant.

Which countries are currently included in the law?

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Republic of Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • UK

HubSpot, a leader in this industry, has put together a great post on their website outlining questions to ask yourself to determine if you are GDPR Ready.   If you are unsure about what the regulations include, you can find GDPR FAQs here.
