Hi, Michele Bergh here with “Bergh Consulting” here. In this video we’re going to be covering how to add a product to your WooCommerce website. We’re going to go the easy route first and that is to look at your list of products, if you have products already, this will work great for you. Otherwise, you want to watch our next video, that covers adding them from scratch.

So assuming that you already have products in your shop, you can come into the list of products by logging in going down to “Products” and then click on “All products” and it’s going to bring up a list. You’ll want to look for a product that most closely resembles the product you want to add now. Once you find that you can duplicate one of your existing listings by clicking on the “Duplicate” button. I’m not going to do that in this case but we’re going to pretend that I did, and we’ve got a new product here started.

The first thing you want to do is update the title, so that it is reflective of your new product offering. You’ll also want to click on “Edit” and change the URL this permalink to reflect your new product and it should closely resemble the title in your title field here. You can leave off words like, “with” or “the”, “a” and any of those types of words because they don’t help you with SEO.

The next thing you’ll do is update the description, make any changes that you need to make. Scroll down to the product data and assuming that this is very similar. What we have in here now is a “Simple product” and we just change the price, and we can leave everything else the same. Make sure that we change the “SKU”, so that there isn’t a conflict on the front-end with that. Not everybody uses SKUs. So if you don’t have one in here that’s just fine. Make sure that we have the right settings here for managing stock. Make sure that the “Weight” and “Dimensions” is correct for this item. Even though they’re very similar, they may be just different enough that you need to update this. So make sure that you do that if that’s necessary.

And then you’ll need to make sure that the “Shipping class” is also correct. This will depend on what you’re using for shipping. You may or may not have something in that field. “Linked products”: if it’s a similar product it’s probably, if you’ve used these fields it’s probably fine to leave in there what you have already. Otherwise, you could change them.

“Upsells” are products that you want to have them upgrade to. “Cross-sells” are things that you want them to buy in addition to what they’re buying. So it’s an opportunity to sell them something more. And you can always hover over here too, if you don’t remember what they’re for and it will tell you.

You’ll want to make sure that the “Attributes” are the correct ones for this product. They likely are if they’re very similar. But you do always want to double check. And then you want to just double check that any notes that are in here and make sure that you like what they say and then it’s applicable to the product that you have here now.

Then we come to the “Product short description”. This is what shows up under the title to the right of the product image on the product page. Some people leave this blank, some people put in a short description. Either way is fine just make your adjustments here.

And then moving over to the right-hand side of the screen we have the “Products gallery” and the main product. So you want to make sure that you update these for your new product. Update your “tags” to make sure that they’re relevant to the product that you’re uploading now. Update your product “Categories” to make sure that you have the right ones selected and then you can “Publish” or “Update” depending on what it says on this button.

If you’re wanting to look at it before you publish, you can click on “Preview Changes”. That’s going to open in a new window, so that you can see what it’ll look like. Make sure that everything looks good before you go ahead and click this button.

If it’s the first time it’s being published, it may say “Publish here” and that you may have a save draft option right here. If you’re not quite ready to go live you can click that “Save draft” if it’s available. Otherwise, you can always go and change the status here by clicking on the “Edit” and changing it to “Draft”. And that’s it. You’re good to go. Hopefully, that was helpful. I appreciate you joining me, and we’ll see you in the next video.
